WCSHL FINAL CANCELLED
The best of 7 final between Corner Brook and Deer Lake will not be going ahead. Hockey NL has cancelled all HNL sanctioned activities (including the league final) for the remainder of this season.The HNL decision relates to concerns re: Coronavirus, and was made in consultation and communication with the Province's Medical Officer of Health, HNL's Medical Director and Hockey Canada.In a release from Hockey NL, President Jack Lee states, "The welfare of all Canadians is paramount to Hockey NL and as such we shall do our part in securing their health and well-being". Royals/ Red Wings to Kick Off Final Friday
The West Coast Senior Hockey League final will be starting Friday at the Hodder. The Corner Brook Royals and Deer Lake Red Wings will meet Friday at 8:00 in the opener in the best of 7 final. Game 2 will be Saturday at the Hodder, beginning at 7:30.Action will then switch to the Civic Center for games 3 and 4. Game 3 will be played Friday, March 20 at 8:00; game 4 Saturday, March 21 at 7:30.If games 5, 6 and 7 are necessary, they will take place on the weekend of March 27, 28 and 29. Royals Clinch Spot in Final
The Corner Brook Royals earned a thrilling 3-1 win over the Port aux Basques Mariners Friday at the Civic Center. With the win, the Royals lock up a spot in the final with Deer Lake.Goalie Ian Woolfry was spectacular in the Royals' net, stopping 41 of 42 shots. Ryley Nadon was strong in goal for PAB making 31 saves of the 33 shots he faced.Corner Brook got goals from Andrew Stagg, Tyler Hunt and Ryan Roche who scored into an empty net with 1 second to go. Corner Brook's Matt Colbourne and Brad Power Earn League Awards
Matt Colbourne skated off with a pair of awards in a recent presentation at the Civic Center. Colbourne won the league's top scorer award, notching 14 goals and 12 assists in just 9 games. The talented forward also earned the team's Most Valuable Player prize.Brad Power was recognized as the league's top netminder. The former Dennis GM Western King graduate had an outstanding year in goal, despite facing high shot totals on a regular basis. [Full Story]

Royals Outlast Mariners in PAB
There were goals galore at the Bruce 2 Friday; unfortunately for the home team, the visitors got the most. The Corner Brook Royals exploded for 7 goals in the middle period en route to an 11-7 win over Port aux Basques.Josh Smith had a big night for the Royals with a 3 goal and 2 assist game. Daniel Noseworthy also had 5 points, with 2 goals and 3 helpers. Veteran Jeremy Bishop, a welcome returnee to the line-up after a stint on the injury list, had 4 points including 2 goals. Red Wings Thump Royals 8-1
The Deer Lake Red Wings kicked off the West Coast League playoffs Friday, knocking off the Royals 8-1 at the Civic Center. Alex Tulk had a big night to lead the winners; he had five assists. The Red Wings got goals from eight different players, Brett Urguhart, Morgan Thorne, Josh Skinner, Luke Parsons, Luas McKay, Ian Richardson, Robert Greene, and Mason Campbell.The Royals, who once again played with a short bench, got their lone goal from Matt Colbourne. WCSHL Teams Kick off Playoffs February 21st
The WCSHL round robin semi-final will start next weekend with a pair of games. Friday, February 21st, the Deer Lake Red Wings, top team in the regular season, will take on the Royals at the Civic Center in Corner Brook. Game time is 8:00. The Red Wings knocked off the Royals in 5 of their 6 games, though the teams produced some very competitive action. Saturday, February 22nd, the Red Wings will make the trek to Port aux Basques to take on the Mariners at 8:00. Deer Lake opens up the playoffs with a pair of road games as ice-time was not available at the Hodder. [Full Story]

Royals Earn Tight Win over Port aux Basques
The Corner Brook Royals earned a 7-5 win over visiting Port aux Basques Saturday in Corner Brook. The Royals carried a  5-2 lead into the third, but were pressed to hang on to a 6-5 lead late in the third. Matt Colbourne sealed the win with a goal into the empty net. The goal was Colbourne's fourth of the game. Ryan Roche, a first year Royal, continued his strong play with 2 goals and an assist. Ryan Gillam had a goal and 3 assists. Iain Pilgrim had 4 assists.
