Statement From The City Of Corner Brook

Central West Newfoundland Senior Hockey League (CWSHL) Finals Information
Why the (CWSHL) finals 3rd Game is in Deer Lake?

Corner Brook will be hosting the 2016 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games where over 950 athletes, coaches and mission staff are expected to compete in 7 different sports March 1-March 5, 2016. This will be a large scale sporting event and a great experience for sportsmanship, athleticism and competition.

The Special Olympics team booked ice time at the Civic Centre in advance of the start of the 2015-16 CWSHL season. Although we would have been honoured to have the Royals home opener in the City of Corner Brook we recognize the importance and significance of the Special Olympic Winter Games.

The Corner Brook Royals contacted the Cataracts exploring the possibility of modifying the schedule that would have the Cataracts open in Corner Brook for games 1 & 2. This request was not accepted by the Cataracts meaning that the Corner Brook Royals had to find an alternate ice surface for their Saturday opener on March 5.

Game 3 of the CWSHL finals will be played at the Hodder in Deer Lake Saturday, March 5th at 8pm.
Game 4 will be back at the Corner Brook Civic Centre Sunday March 6th at 2pm
